24″ Red Chile Ristra

Two foot red chile ristras made with the Sandia variety of New Mexico chile. Our chile ristras are all at least the quoted length, and are often longer. Two foot chile ristras are a great size to accentuate larger areas, such as walls and patios. The red chile in these ristras is enough to cook a large amount of meals with, or simply admire the long string of dried chile. Ristras make New Mexicans feel at home, and possibly wanting a bowl of grandma’s posole.

Description

These 2 ft Hatch Red Chile Ristras are available fresh in New Mexico in the early middle of the chile season every year. Typically they are available fresh locally by Labor Day, which coincides with the Hatch Chile Festival. Red chile is the mature version of green chile, and takes a few weeks longer to fully mature. When they are fresh,  they are quite heavy, can mold if left in a box, and also often harbor a lot of flies. Because of this, we let them dry out a few weeks in the sun before shipment. Expect us to begin shipping these ristras by the middle of September for the 2024 Hatch chile season! We will start shipping chile ristras across the continental US at that point in the chile season.
